This work continues the previous opus, driving the principle of subtraction to its furthest limit. At the heart of a painted wall, it is no longer the skin-like surface that is removed, but the wall’s very depth. Peeling turns to amputation. The stripping is ruthless, not by constraint but by excess: it devours the wall, carving it down into emptiness. At times the wall’s geometric incision calls for the precision of a surgical drill.
Then the walled space is pierced with light, and daylight unveils what was concealed. The picture becomes, in the truest sense, an opening onto another realm. And should one venture into it, the hidden side appears: a backstage world that, once again, bears little resemblance to the spectacle first presented.
