Take 1
Summer 2016
Gouache on acrylic on linen canvas mounted on wooden panel
31 × 19 × 1 cm
Here, the hand no longer constructs — it breathes.
The brush moves without rule, within the softness of a trembling geometry.
Colour stretches, overlaps, at times crumbles;
it carries the grain of the gesture, the pulse of pigment upon the board.
The surfaces are no longer joined, but lived:
fragments of space where painting, in its fragility, offers itself without reserve.
Each rectangle becomes a note, a breath,
a meeting between the calm of form
and the unpredictable life of matter.
In these paintings, gouache asserts its matte quietness —
a light absorbed rather than returned.
Nothing dazzles: the gaze comes to rest,
sinking gently into the surface, welcomed by colour itself.
The painting no longer reflects — it breathes and holds.
The eye, invited to enter the surface, dissolves within it,
like a trace of coloured dust suspended in air.
