This second opus replays the founding principle of its predecessor: to inscribe, in the perishable matter of a degradable painting, the instability of its environment. Yet here a decisive difference emerges: the wall is no longer a blank page. It already bears a trace, a sign, an identity.
The painting is superimposed upon the mural logo, engulfing it until it disappears from sight. Its position, size, and outline are dictated by this usurping host. The sign, native to the wall, is displaced by a precarious occupant. A fleeting colonisation: the painting endures only as a squatter, always under threat of erasure. The balance tilts first towards the occupier — the dazzling freshness of white — then slowly shifts back to the displaced, who gradually reclaims its rights, like a memory rising to the surface.
But what does the viewer see before time has left its mark? Nothing but an expanse of uniform white. The underlayer declares itself only through the wound or erosion of the “overlayer”. Without prior knowledge, no one would suspect the existence of a palimpsest. The visible shrinks to a neutral quadrilateral, awaiting its fissure. And if the wall itself is white, the intervention verges on total invisibility. The trickster merges with its ground. The vanisher vanishes, to the point of abolishing itself.
Thus, the picture exists only between two times: that of concealment and that of revelation. Between them, the gaze is held in suspension, caught in a zone of uncertainty where the ordinary of the wall and the extraordinary of the painting merge until they become indistinguishable.
