Take 1
Winter 2015 / 2016
Acrylic and gouache on MDF
3 × (65 × 40 × 1.6 cm)
On each panel, colour rises like a constructed substance.
Nothing is added: everything is adjusted, sanded, polished,
until the joint becomes a line.
The paint settles slowly, by hand, then withdraws beneath the sandpaper,
until it is no longer a trace, but a skin.
Each MDF plate joins the next in a silent geometry,
made of muted balances and subdued correspondences.
The gesture fades, yet its absence still vibrates —
as though colour, turned mineral,
retained the memory of touch.
Within the triptych, the reading unfolds from left to right:
forms and tones develop, intertwine, grow in complexity.
Beneath the apparent stillness, a slow metamorphosis occurs —
almost imperceptible, yet continuous,
as if the series breathed through its own variations.
If each panel were photographed,
and the three images played in an endless loop,
a discreet motion would appear —
the passage from one surface to another,
from calculation to vibration.
Between gouache and acrylic, a dual light emerges:
one absorbs, the other reflects.
Matte and satin alternate, converse,
as though the surface hesitated between silence and radiance.
Under the fingertips, the material still breathes —
neither entirely smooth, nor entirely matte,
but alive with a secret oscillation between shadow and light.
