Nine pairs. Nine attempts to approach the other without ever possessing them. Brief Encounters explores the fragility of that suspended moment when two forms brush against one another — recognise, adjust, perhaps align — before parting ways. Here, contact is never prolonged: it resides entirely in a single point — a fleeting edge, an equilibrium on the verge of separation.
Each module, white, smooth, almost neutral, exists as an autonomous entity. Yet, the instant another approaches, tension arises: space tilts, the line bends, emptiness becomes substance. What binds them is not the surface of contact but the breath of the in-between — that narrow interval where the very possibility of connection is born.
The first encounters are timid, almost hesitant. The point advances without piercing; it suggests rather than asserts — two surfaces attuning themselves with care, like two voices seeking harmony. Further along, the geometry grows sharper: angles become bolder, the meeting more direct, almost abrupt. The rigour of the form translates into the candour of the gesture.
Then comes the final movement — one where forms, now conscious of their otherness, invent unexpected unions. Some meet in perfect symmetry; others interpenetrate, creating a new, shared figure in which each relinquishes something of itself to coexist. The last encounter appears unstable, even discordant; yet it is from this imbalance that accord emerges.
Under the white light, all seems calm: surfaces, lines, junctures. But within this restraint unfolds a quiet theatre — one of approach, of measure, of risk. Brief Encounters is less a geometry than a breath: the brief suspension of two forms that, for an instant, accept to meet.
